The Classical Guitar Society of Northeast Pennsylvania is making a triumphant return, reaffirming the importance of a dedicated organization that supports and celebrates the classical guitar in all its forms. From solo recitals to chamber music collaborations, from traditional repertoire to contemporary innovations, the Society exists to foster an appreciation for the instrument’s rich and evolving tradition.

For years, the Society has brought internationally renowned guitarists to the Scranton-Wilkes Barre area, offering world-class performances, masterclasses, and workshops to enrich both musicians and audiences. This commitment to excellence continues under new leadership, with Dr. Diogo Carvalho spearheading the revival. A globally recognized arts leader and festival director, Carvalho has shaped the international music scene through his work with Global Arts United (GAU), curating festivals that have premiered over a hundred works and brought together composers, performers, and conductors from around the world.

Beyond his international leadership, Dr. Carvalho is an esteemed faculty member of the prestigious Music, Theatre, and Dance Department at Marywood University, where he teaches guitar, composition, music theory, and other courses. His role at Marywood has been instrumental in shaping a new generation of musicians, providing students with a dynamic, hands-on approach to learning. His vision for the Society will not only restore its former legacy but also propel it into the future, expanding opportunities for artists and audiences alike.

This revitalization comes at a crucial time when the arts need champions more than ever. The Classical Guitar Society of NEPA will serve as a cultural hub, fostering artistic collaboration, education, and performance. Through concerts, educational initiatives, and partnerships with esteemed institutions like the Rossetti Foundation for the Arts and Culture, the Society will continue to cultivate a thriving guitar community in Northeast Pennsylvania.

Join us in celebrating this revival—whether as a performer, student, enthusiast, or supporter. With an exciting new season ahead, featuring internationally acclaimed artists and rising stars, the Classical Guitar Society of NEPA is once again ready to inspire, educate, and elevate the region’s guitar culture.
